The Blogger Recognition Award

Thank you to Malcolm’s Mummy for nominating me for this blogging award. The Blogger Recognition Award is one that I’ve had my eye on for some time. Getting noticed by my fellow bloggers feels so rewarding. I love being part of the blogging community. I’ve interacted with so many amazing people already. So here goes…the Blogger Recognition Award.

When you’re nominated for the Blogger Recognition Award, there are rules you need to follow while accepting the award in order to keep the circle going:

• Thank the blogger that nominated you

• Write a post to show your award

• Give a brief story of how your blog started

• Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers

• Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to

How My Blog Started

I started my blog back in April 2017. This was around the time when my life was extremely chaotic. I have always had a passion for writing. At this time of my life, I had a lot to write about. I had wanted to create a blog for a long time, but I was nervous about the whole world knowing about my personal life. If you are going to write a blog, there’s no point in missing out your deepest, darkest secrets.

At this point in my life I had recently found out that I was having a baby. My Dad was losing his battle with Cancer. I had just changed my job. I had only just moved out of my childhood home. Life was crazy. There was so much going on in my head that I needed a way to process everything. I also wanted to share my stories to help other people who were experiencing the same things.

Publishing my first post was terrifying. I had no idea what the reaction would be like, or if anyone would actually read it. Hitting the publish button took a lot of bravery. I am so glad that I did. Although my blog isn’t perfect (far from it), it is my little space on the internet. It’s personal to me and it has so many memories that I can look back on. It will be a good read for my children when they are older too.

Advice For New Bloggers

I am nearly two years into my blogging journey now. There is still so much that I want to improve. However, I do have some advice for anyone who is thinking of starting their own blog.

1. Don’t put to much pressure on yourself to exceed.

If you want to create a blog for the sole reason of enjoying the writing experience, then take it slow. You don’t need to pressure yourself into writing all the time. Write when you feel like it. It’s okay not to write anything for weeks on end if there is nothing you want to write about.

If you have created a blog in the hope of it becoming successful, then the same advice applies. I have seen far too many bloggers threaten to delete everything they have done from the pressure of keeping it up to date. If you start to struggle, then take a break. I did this myself and you can come back refreshed and ready to go. It’s just a hobby when you think about it, so don’t let it take over your life.

2. Enjoy what you are writing about

You need to have a passion for what you are writing about. Otherwise, you will lose interest. I write about parenting and relationships, which is a constant theme in my life. Therefore, I will always have something new to write about. Make sure your topic is broad enough so that you don’t run out of ideas. If you enjoy writing about your topic, then the results will surely follow. If you do find yourself struggling to find ideas to write about, then read other blogs. It’s very likely that there are thousands of other bloggers writing about the same thing.

I am now going to nominate 15 other bloggers to take part in the Blogger Recognition Award. I wish I could nominate more, as there are so many incredible writers out there.

I definitely agree on the pressure stuff, I can’t believe anyone would delete all their hard work! Iactually stepped away from blogging for over a year but a friend reached out to me about how my blog has been really helpful for him to pick out books for his wife, even though my blog wasn’t active at the time it was nice to know it was still helping.
    Congrats on the award 🙂

I know it would be such a shame to throw away all that hard work! Taking a break can be really beneficial, it can refresh your mind and you can come back with a better mindset.

I’ve always found writing for my blog has been a big help for me, especially when you have a lot going on. Glad you’re enjoying blogging! I totally agree with your advice, you do have to enjoy what you write about otherwise you it is so much harder, and there’s no fun in creating a blog for something you don’t love!
