The Versatile Blogger Award

I’ve been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award by the lovely Jemma Malone. Thanks for that, it came as a bit of a surprise as I’ve never been nominated for anything before. I feel like I’m part of the blogging community now which feels great! Blogging for me has always been about the enjoyment but it’s nice to be involved with awards and recognition from other bloggers.

Here are the rules:

  • Write 7 interesting facts about yourself (this could be difficult)
  • Nominate 15 amazing bloggers for the award

Interesting Facts About Myself

So here goes:

1. First off, I’m a complete social retard. Interacting with other humans is something that does not come naturally to me. Probably the reason why I enjoy blogging so much, means I don’t actually have to talk to people face to face.

2. Although I’m a self confessed social retard, I did spend 3 months in Africa in 2016 working in schools attempting to teach sexual health. That’s right, I traveled to the other side of the world to teach kids about the birds and the bees. I’m still waiting for someone to have that chat with me!

3. I’m a massive football fan (yes I find this interesting). The missus would strongly disagree. Basically this is what I spend my weekends watching. If anyone’s interested I’m a lifelong Liverpool fan. One of the reasons why at the age of 25 I have so many grey hairs.

4. The most interesting part of my life right now would have to be that I’m 4 months into my first attempt at being a father. I use the word ‘attempt’ purposely, I reckon I’ll be better at it the second time round. It’s been hard so far but there’s no better feeling than being a dad. It’s what life is all about.

5. I currently work in a nursery. Yes you heard that right, a straight man working in a nursery. Isn’t all that common but I’m breaking the mould and smashing them stereotypes out the park. I spend my day surrounded by young females, sounds great doesn’t it? Wrong, females are another reason why I have so many grey hairs. Find out why here.

6. My girlfriend Amy is three years older than me. Got myself a cougar! I like to remind her quite frequently that she got herself a toyboy. I can’t be too mean to her though considering what she does for a profession…she’s a prison officer. Talk about the two of us breaking the stereotypes of gender roles! She likes to think she’s scary and tough but really she’s just a little softie.

7. My blog name ‘Yuletimes’ came from my surname which is Yule. Before you ask, no my blog has nothing to do with Christmas, or Yule logs. I created my blog when my girlfriend was pregnant to share my experiences, and I have continued to do so now that I’m a father.

Haha, I’m glad I gave you a laugh. It actually took me a few minutes to remember your guys “football” is our soccer. I kept thinking, “huh, I’ve never heard of this Liverpool in football before🤔” lol.
You’re very welcome. Lucky for you, I don’t ever give a compliment if it isn’t warranted and my opinion is gospel…..and quite possibly the only one that matters so it’s all truths Stephen😊. Keep writing with that same natural style you seem to have and your blog will continue to flourish!

    • YuleTimes

Yeah we call it football over here (the right name for it ;)) you’ll have to check Liverpool out, only the best team around! Well I’m very thankful that you believe that about my blog. It can be hard to continue to find the motivation at times but comments like that make it all worthwhile.

      • Amanda Despins

I’ll look into Liverpool and may ask your girlfriend for pointers or questions about it. I find real avid watchers of a particular sport don’t always make the best teachers (sorry😬) and from what I gather she’s not a crazy huge football fanatic.
Haha, I’ll just have to agree with you on the “football” vs “soccer” name as I don’t follow either so I’m easy (ha! And that’s what she said!) with whatever the sport is called.
I do have a couple questions in regards to that though, what do you guys call our football? (I’m from 🇨🇦) And is the word “soccer” just a moo word then for you guys?
Yeah, it’s tough to stick with it especially with a little one or just kids in general. I’m thinking of just folding my site, my domain is up for renewal in March and I just don’t have the time, head space or energy for the attn it deserves at the moment. I’ve just gotten back into the work force (a field that’s new to me) after 9 1/2 yrs of being a full time domestic engineer and trying to find the balance at the moment resembles trying tame a cat high on catnip. Chaos is what it is!
Honestly, if I could just get into freelance editing for the time being then I’d be happy but who knows.
I’ll continue to follow your site and should have my nomination post up this wkend!
        Apologies for that novel!
        Have a great weekend😊

        • YuleTimes

That was some essay! Pointless asking my girlfriend about Liverpool she’s still under my training. I’m currently teaching her all about it. I used the soccer word as I assumed that you were from America. Soccer is an American term for what us British call football. Your football will probably be what American’s call American football.
It’s a shame that you are thinking about packing it in. I’ve often thought that I was wasting my time but I’m basically carrying on because I just love writing and I’m hoping that one day the right people will read it and like it. Writing is something that I want to do as a career in the future. I just need that lucky break.

Feel free to continue to read my blog. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out.

Great post! Like HonestK, I never would have thought you to be socially inept! You’re a great writer and come across incredibly social.

Oye, I’m going to apologize (I’m literally cringing as I write this) right now, but what is a Liverpool? I’m sorry!!!
The only sport I really follow is hockey and even that is pretty well limited to the my sons minor hockey and the NHL.

You’ve got a great blog here Stephen! You should be really proud of it😊

    • YuleTimes

Thank you! Yeah I may come across as confident online but I’m actually very socially awkward in reality.

I follow Liverpool FC in football haha! That really did make me laugh :’) I knew that that fact would only interest those who are into sport and football especially.

Thank you for your lovely comments, sometimes I really need to hear comments like this to keep me going. Don’t always feel like what I’m writing is any good.

  • Martina

My son is delighted to learn that a Liverpool fan has nominated me for the award! I am just delighted to be nominated. Couldn’t give a monkey’s about the Liverpool thing! I did really enjoy finding out more about you though!

    • YuleTimes

Tell your son that I’m glad that he supports a good team! You’re very welcome for the nomination, I’ve enjoyed our interaction and I’m looking forward to finding out more about you too!

  • HonestK

Thank you for the nomination! I think it’s just what I need to get back into my once loved, blogging hobby.
I’d never know you are so socially inept, like myself, you are a chatter box on Twitter 🙂

    • YuleTimes

Sometimes you just need to do something enjoyable to get back into it. I’ve been struggling to keep my blog going since Austin was born. I just can’t find the time. Yeah socialising isn’t something I’m very good at, I find it a lot easier to be myself online and through my writing.
