My Week as a Single Dad

Recently I learnt what it was like to be a single parent. No Amy hasn’t traded me in for a younger and slightly less tired model. Not yet anyway. I’ve recently put a ring on her finger so there’s no chance of that now. Smart I know! Part of Amy’s job as a prison officer means that every 16 weeks she works a week of night shifts. This would strike the fear into any Dad. Men cannot survive without a woman there to tell them exactly what to do and when to do it. When we are younger it’s the job of our mothers. Then when you get older you…

The Bedtime Routine – Tips To Taking Back Your Sleep

Getting your baby to bed (and staying there) can be one of the most challenging parts of parenthood. When you’ve had a particularly hard day the last thing you want is for a disrupted night with very little sleep. It’s going to make you cranky, which will result in a very cranky baby. Not so fun! I’m going to give a little insight into how I have taken action in attempting to create some sort of routine for my baby. What Shocked Me About Fatherhood

Fatherhood. I thought it was going to be all fun and games. Spending hours playing peek-a-boo and singing lullabies. Standing over a moses basket whilst my baby slept peacefully. The reality however, was very different. There was definitely some false advertising somewhere along the line because being a parent is bloody hard work. Nothing like what I expected at all. Somebody should really suggest teaching this sort of stuff in schools so that everybody is aware of what they are getting themselves into. I bet that would reduce the amount of teenage pregnancies. Get rid of subjects like Design Tech and Religious Education and replace them with ‘What parenting is…

5 Things To Expect In The Third Trimester

So we’ve made it through the first trimester with the morning sickness, and we’ve survived the second trimester with the bigger breasts and higher sex drive in your partner (that was a tough few months, not sure how I got through that) and we’ve finally made it to the third trimester. The calm before the storm, the countdown to takeoff, the home stretch. It’s nearly time for baby to make their arrival, and for you as the father to get your shit together. Here’s a few things to expect during the third trimester…   1. Bump’s Getting Big At this point of the pregnancy, you can expect your partner’s bump…

What To Expect When You’re Expecting – A Man’s Guide

When it comes to pregnancy, us guys have it pretty easy. Women have to go through weight gain, stretch marks, morning sickness and then after all that, push out a tiny human from their baby making passage. That’s tough work! However, it’s not always plain sailing for the guy either. There are many physical and emotional obstacles that we have to overcome along the way. Some obstacles that I personally didn’t even know existed until I was thrust into the pregnancy game. Here are a few examples of the challenges I have faced so far… 1. Lack of sleep This is the one that is going to affect you the…
