For yesterday’s post I gave a few Elf on the Shelf ideas which you can catch up on here!
Today I am going to be sharing with you the story of when Austin met Santa Claus for the very first time. It’s supposed to be a magical moment. Your child experiencing the magic that is Christmas. Children love Santa, and all of the magic that he brings. Austin clearly hadn’t got the message.
Austin has always had a fear of unfamiliar men, and some familiar men when he’s in a particular bad mood. He also seems to have a developed a phobia of beards as well. So as caring and responsible parents, we decided to take him to see a bearded old man that he’d never seen before. I’m sure that it could have been classed as child cruelty, but it had to be done.
We didn’t even get chance to pass Austin over to Santa before he burst into hysterics. He took one look at the long, white beard and sobbed his little heart out. We even tried sitting him next to Santa whilst sat on his Grandad’s knee but this was also unsuccessful. Santa was still kind enough to pass him a big present, which he also refused to take. The devastation of the whole situation was clearly too much for the little guy.
As you can see, rather than rush to my son’s rescue, I decided to snap a picture first. As cruel as I felt, this would make a great memory for when he is older. I might take a picture each year of him sat next to Santa and see if there is any improvement. I do love Santa’s concerned look in this photograph, although I imagine he is probably thinking something along the lines of “oh no, not another crier!” Thanks for being patient today Santa, and it was nothing personal that my son found you creepy and terrifying.
Lets hope for more luck next year!
In tomorrow’s post I will be sharing some gift ideas for your Secret Santa!
